CONTACT of Northern Illinois (a.k.a. Contact Stephenson County) is a telephone ministry, which originated in Australia in 1963. A minister who had experience first hand of the needs of those who were lonely and troubled and needed another human being responded by making help available to them . . . as close as their telephone.

CONTACT crisis helpline is many things and has much to offer our community. CONTACT volunteers are dedicated people giving of their time and concern to help . . . whether it be a lonely person in the middle of the night, a teen in crisis or someone in need of a listening ear.

CONTACT is a non-profit organization supported by contributions from the United Way of Northwest Illinois, the Freeport Community Foundation, the 708 Board, churches, civic organizations, private businesses, interested individuals and grants.

What ever the reason for the call, CONTACT crisis helpline volunteers are here to listen.

All calls are free of charge. No charges are applied to any CONTACT crisis helpline services.

CONTACT Helpline

CONTACT of Northern Illinois is a 24 hour a day 7 days a week Helpline, that has been serving our area for the past 28 years. CONTACT of Northern Illinois is one of over 48 centers accredited by Contact Teleministries, USA. All an individual has to do is dial our number and they will be connected to a Certified Line Specialist who is there to listen.

CONTACT crisis line volunteers answered over 32,500 calls in 2008. Abused or addicted adults, lonely seniors, teens, and individuals threatening suicide all call the helpline. In addition to our help line, CONTACT provides, Reassurance CONTACT, Teen Crisis helpline, kid phone, and information and referrals. CONTACT of Northern Illinois has been serving Stephenson County since 1981.

Reassurance CONTACT provides daily contact with clients, providing medication reminders, daily check-ins, and friendly chats. Reassurance CONTACT provides support to clients as they deal with aging.

Teen crisis helpline provides outreach during a teen crisis; Teen crisis helpline is a safe place where teens can talk to other teens about the stresses in their lives and discuss ways to manage those stresses.

CONTACT crisis helpline provides information and referrals to services in Northern Illinois, including Stephenson County, Winnebago County, Jo Daviess County, Ogle County, and Carroll County; and is the connection to Mental Health Professionals and Assault and Abuse Advocates after hours.
